A warm welcome to the website of the European Modelhobby Association e.V.

The European Modelhobby Association e.V. (EMA) was founded in Frankfurt in June 2011 as an association of European model goods manufacturers and distributors. The purpose of the EMA is to safeguard and promote the interests of those companies active in the production and sale of model products in the Federal Republic of Germany and Europe. These interests include the assurance of model products' safety and environmental compatibility for the end-user, and the maintenance of fair competition.

Like many other goods, model products are subject to a large number of requirements aimed at protecting users and the environment; these obligations apply throughout the EU. In addition to the general rules, these requirements include the following laws and regulations:

  • Product safety law  (ProdSG),
  • Law concerning the electro-magnetic compatibility of equipment  (EMVG),
  • Law concerning radio systems and telecommunications transmitting equipment (FTEG),
  • Electrical and electronic equipment law (ElektroG) / RoHs
  • Battery law  (BattG),
  • Directive 2002/95/EG (RoHS),
  • Order (EG) No. 1907/2006 (REACH)
  • und weitere mehr.

Satisfying these requirements demands substantial investment in specialist staff and test equipment, and also involves significant outlay, for example in the disposal of dry and rechargeable batteries and unwanted equipment.

The more important tasks of the EMA include the following:

  • To inform members of economic and legal developments which are of significance to the model industry,
  • To ensure that existing economic law - especially in the areas of product safety, user protection and environmental protection - is upheld,
  • To inform users of the legal requirements relating to modelling products, and the background to these requirements,
  • To expose unfair competition and other infringements of existing economic laws,
  • To take measures and develop activities which are conducive to the achievement of the association's aims.

The current committee of the EMA consists of the following individuals:
Dieter Wörner, Managing Director Multiplex Modellsport GmbH  & Co. KG, Bretten, Germany (1st Chairman)
Rainer Hacker, Managing Director Hacker Motors GmbH,
Germany (2nd Chairman)
André Thirion, Managing Director T2M SAS, Faulquemont, France
Henning Weiß, Sales Manager LRP, Schorndorf, Germany

The membership of the EMA consists of virtually every prestigious company operating in the German and European model industry. The association is based in Hamburg.
